 Location and school mottos

Location

Chikushi High School (CHS) is located in Fukuoka, Kyushu, in the south of Japan. Fukuoka is the most populous prefecture of Kyushu, with a population of over 5 million. CHS lies in the middle of Fukuoka prefecture, and close to the Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine.

The three educational mottos

Chikushi High School was founded in 1973.  We celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2012.

The three educational mottos of CHS are‘Sou’,’Ai’,and ‘Ken.’  ‘Sou’ comes from ‘Souzo’(creative wisdom and frontier spirit), ‘Ai’ from ‘Keiai’(self-esteem and respect for others) and ‘Ken’ is derived from ‘Goken'(physically and mentally sound).

Our school badge has plum blossoms and a mirror dedicated to Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine. Plum blossoms in Japan come out after a long cold winter and they represent a creative frontier spirit.  The mirror reflects our images and gives us a chance to reflect on our attitudes. This school badge was designed by Mr. Nao Shigematsu, who devoted himself to establish CHS as the first principal.  He also wrote the words of our school song which all the students always sing at ceremonies or at big events.
