Sports Day

Sports Day is held in September every year.  Members of the student council of Chikushi High School plan, rehearse and run the entire festival on their own.  There are many things that they do. They have relays, an obstacle course relay ,etc. There is also a tug-a-war match, a jump rope competition and much more.

But the most exciting event is “Kibasen.” They are separated into groups of 4 boys. One is called the “rider” and the others form the “horse.” The 3 “horse” boys lift the “rider” onto their shoulders and the “rider” tries to bring down the other “rider.”

Each color group has a chance to show its team spirit. One way is through a color board performance.  Students sit on stands holding a plastic stand with colored flaps. Together they make a variety of images and words. Another way they show their group spirit is through cheering. There is a boys and girls group for cheering. The girls do a mix of cheerleading and dancing while the boys do more of a marital art performance.
